BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are lines caused by repeated expressions, such as frowning, squinting, smiling, or raising the eyebrows.

Unlike facial fillers , which add volume beneath the skin, BOTOX® works by reducing muscle activity in specific areas. When the targeted muscles relax, the overlying skin can appear smoother and less creased.

The goal is not to remove every bit of movement from the face. The goal is to soften unwanted lines while maintaining a natural, expressive appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is performed in the office and typically takes only a short amount of time. A very fine needle is used to place small amounts of product into targeted muscles.

Most patients describe the treatment as quick and tolerable, often comparing the sensation to a small pinch. Numbing is usually not necessary, though comfort measures can be discussed if needed.

After treatment, most patients return to normal daily activities right away.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by temporarily blocking signals between nerves and targeted muscles. When those muscles relax, the skin above them becomes smoother and the wrinkles created by repeated movement become less noticeable.

Because the effect is temporary, treatment must be repeated periodically to maintain results. Most patients begin to notice improvement within several days, with full results developing over the following one to two weeks.

Dose selection and injection placement should be tailored to your facial anatomy. Too little product may not create enough improvement, while too much product or poor placement can create heaviness, asymmetry, or an unnatural look.
