Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts. During surgery, excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipple and areola are repositioned to a more natural height.

Unlike breast augmentation , a breast lift does not primarily add volume. It is most appropriate when the main concern is breast sagging, stretched skin, or low nipple position.

If both sagging and volume loss are present, a combined breast augmentation with lift may be considered.

The incision pattern depends on the degree of sagging, skin quality, breast shape, nipple position, and amount of reshaping required.

• Periareolar or donut incision: Placed around the areola and used in selected cases with limited lifting needs.
• Vertical or lollipop incision: Placed around the areola and vertically down the lower breast.
• Anchor or inverted-T incision: Placed around the areola, vertically down the breast, and along the breast fold.

Choosing an incision is not only about minimizing scar length. The pattern must allow enough skin removal and tissue reshaping to create a supported breast contour. Using too limited an incision for significant sagging can compromise shape and durability.

Swelling, tightness, soreness, bruising, and temporary firmness are common during early recovery. A surgical bra is usually worn to support the breasts while healing.

• First week Rest, take short walks, wear the recommended surgical bra, and avoid lifting and upper-body strain.
• One to two weeks Many patients return to nonphysical work as swelling and soreness begin improving.
• Following weeks Exercise is resumed gradually after clearance, while the breasts continue settling and softening.
• Several months Residual swelling decreases and scars continue to mature and fade.

The exact timeline depends on the incision pattern, amount of reshaping, and individual healing.
